How Solar Works

At Ecologic Energy Solutions, we understand that the solar process may appear intricate. Our experts are available to assist you through the entire process from start to finish!

Our solar PV chargers harness and collect energy from the sun. Our chargers are equipped with photovoltaic cells, which are comprised of materials that convert sunlight into electrical energy.

Our solar PV chargers can be used independently or connected together to form a photovoltaic array. These arrays can be linked to the electrical grid to create a complete solar PV system, providing an efficient and sustainable source of power for your devices.
A complete solar system is composed of more than just solar panels. Our systems include mounting hardware to attach the panels to your roof and ensure they face the sun for maximum efficiency. Additionally, our systems come with inverters which convert the energy harvested by the solar panels (DC power) into usable electrical energy for your home (AC power).

Our PV systems offer a choice of string inverters, which are cost-effective and easily serviced or replaced when needed, or microinverters, which are directly attached to each panel for independent monitoring and operation. With microinverters, you can easily expand your system in the future and even include battery backup options for uninterrupted power supply.

Is Solar Right For You?

Before deciding whether a home is good for solar power, we need to check a few things. Most homes can use solar power, but not all of them. We look at different things to see if a home is suitable for solar panels.
The less shade- the better!
Do you have a lot of trees surrounding your home?
Significant shading that can't be removed isn't worth the investment.
Our team can install solar panels on most roofing materials that are in good condition and structurally sound.

To avoid costly removal and reinstallation expenses when it's time to replace your roof, we recommend aligning the life cycles of your solar panels and roof.

Therefore, it's best to opt for a new or recently installed roof, even if your current roof is in great shape. Keep in mind that solar systems have a lifespan of 25-30 years.
When it comes to solar panel performance, simple roofs with gentle slopes and a south-facing orientation are the most effective.

While south-facing roofs are considered the ideal option, roofs facing East, South, East, West, or South-West can still provide an efficient solar system with a favourable return on investment.
The size of your electrical service and bus bar rating determines the maximum size of your solar system.

Most homes have a 125 AMP or 200 AMP service, which can accommodate systems up to 10kW and 14kW respectively (depending on bus rating).

Our electrical team can provide customized solutions to fit your specific situation, goals, and budget.

Time of Day Rates

Time-of-day (TOD) rates are structured to align electricity charges with the true expenses of generating and distributing power at different times. This results in lower costs during off-peak hours like nights, weekends, and holidays when electricity demand is lower.

Conversely, prices are higher during peak periods, notably winter days when demand soars. To be eligible for the TOD rate, you need an electric space heating system that can effectively store and regulate heat, meeting Nova Scotia Power's approved criteria.
